LED Red Light Therapy Face Mask Series 2: Honest Review and Is It Worth It

LED light therapy masks are everywhere right now—scroll Instagram or TikTok and you’ll see celebrities and influencers glowing under these futuristic red lights. But do they actually work, or are they just another pricey skincare gimmick?

If you’ve been following my blog, you might remember my review of the CurrentBody LED Anti-Acne Mask Series 1. Well, the hype hasn’t slowed down—and with the launch of the new CurrentBody Red LED Light Therapy Mask Series 2, I knew I had to put it to the test.

I’ve been using it consistently for over two months, and in this review I’m breaking down the science of red light therapy, the big upgrades in Series 2 vs. Series 1, and most importantly—whether this mask is really worth your money.

Full disclosure: I reached out to CurrentBody, and they generously gifted me the mask, but this review is 100% honest and not sponsored. So, does it live up to the hype? Let’s dive in! What Is the CurrentBody Red LED Light Mask Series 2?

Currentbody is known for their effective red light therapy devices and other beauty tech, so you can be certain if you purchase a device from them, that it will be high quality and science backed. On their website, Currentbody states “For over 15 years, we have pioneered the fastest-growing category in beauty, successfully incorporating key aesthetic technologies used in clinics into safe, effective, at-home devices. Through our commitment to independent clinical testing and collaboration with doctors, world-renowned dermatologists, high-profile aestheticians and biological science university faculties, we ensure the efficacy and safety of all our products.” This is an advanced anti-aging mask that claims to “boost collagen production for younger-looking skin, reducing wrinkles by 30% and improving plumpness by 57% in 8 weeks* (*Results proven in our independent clinical studies.).” The mask has 3 highly precise wavelengths: red (633nm), near-infrared (830nm) and deep near-infrared (1072nm) and has a total of 236 LEDs!

What’s New in Series 2 vs Series 1?

The Currentbody Red LED Light Mask Series 1 is the original beloved and viral mask. Full transparency, I never used this OG mask, only the Anti-Acne LED Series 1 version, which is similar, with the exception of blue light. The Series 2 Red LED Light Mask has the following upgrades:

  • a lot more LED bulbs: 104 more, which equals more anti-aging power!

  • new deep near infrared light added, which targets areas where signs of aging are more pronounced (around the eyes and mouth in particular), boosting collagen production deep under the skin

  • a much better fit with the new flexible molded silicone shape, as opposed to a flat flexible silicone mask

  • a multiway strap that goes around the head and another over the top of the head for the best possible fit

  • added chin coverage

  • you can now check your own mask’s precision testing with Veritace (each bulb in your mask is tested individually by third party testing)

  • clip-on controller that allows you to easily multitask while wearing the mask

How to use this mask:

In order to get optimal results with the Currentbody Red LED Light Mask Series 2, you want to be consistent and follow the manufacturer’s directions. Wash, cleanse and dry your skin completely before using the mask - you don’t want any skincare products on the skin blocking the full light penetration. Once you attach and adjust the straps onto your head (and insert the eye protection included), you turn on the mask and relax for 10 minutes. The mask will shut off by itself at the end of the 10 minute session, wipe the inside of the mask dry and you can proceed with your skincare routine. Currentbody recommends waiting a full 24 hour period before using the mask again. Start by using it a 2-3 times a week and increase usage as you skin gets used to the treatment. I now use it every other night.

My experience and review:

I’ve been using this mask consistently for two months now, and I feel like that’s enough time to experience noticeable change with a product like this. For reference, I have acne prone and very sensitive skin with rosacea, and I tend to get oily in my T-zone. Ever since I started using the Currentbody Red LED Light Mask Series 2, my complexion has felt a lot more even, my skin is calmer, more glowing, less congested, clearer, and I have little to no inflammation from my rosacea! I’ve also noticed the darkness under my eyes has gotten lighter, and there’s an overall plumpness to my skin that wasn’t pronounced before using this mask. Most importantly, this mask has given me the confidence to go makeup free a lot more than I used to. This is also the most comfortable LED light mask I’ve ever tried, due to the improvements in the shape of the mask itself and the additional strap. You can watch me unbox and wear the mask here and the photo below is how my skin looks now. So is it worth it? Yes! Whether you have inflammatory skin conditions like acne, rosacea etc., or you just want to age the best possible way without invasive procedures, this mask is for you. You can get 10% ($46.99) off this mask by using my Currentbody discount. code GREENBOOTLIFE and shopping the mask via this link here.
