Clearstem Review: I Tried Every Product & Here's What I Actually Think
If you've been curious about Clearstem Skincare, the viral anti-acne and anti-aging skincare and supplement brand, you've probably noticed that the brand has grown WAY beyond its original acne-focused products. From its cult-favorite MINDBODYSKIN supplement and GENTLECLEAN cleanser to serums, masks, SPF, and more, there is now a lot to sort through.
I have very acne prone + sensitive skin, and I've been using Clearstem for years (since 2022, to be exact!), so I decided to do something a little ridiculous: review the entire Clearstem lineup and give you my honest thoughts on every single product (yes, I’ve tried them all)

What Is Clearstem?
Clearstem is a female founded and owned skincare brand that makes skincare and supplements to support the acne prone customer who also wants anti-aging products.
Their Clear Pore Promise guarantees their products as free of pore-clogging ingredients, which is huge, as most people stop breaking out as much once they cut out beauty products with pore cloggers in them.
They not only offer amazing products that actually work, but are also big on education around acne, and focus on both an external and internal approach to clearing skin.
So if you’re looking for products that are both anti-acne and anti-aging, you should definitely check out Clearstem.
Why I Started Using Clearstem
I’ve struggled with acne since 2017, and tried countless of skincare, prescription topicals and natural remedies to help fix my acne. None of it worked, and my skin barrier got destroyed in the process and I developed rosacea on top of it.
I first heard the Clearstem founders on The Bossticks podcast (formerly knowns as The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Show) in 2020, and even know the products sounded good, I was strictly following my dermatologist’s prescribed routine.
Fast forward to 2022, the Clearstem founders were back on the same podcast, and they were talking about root causes of acne, pore clogging ingredients, and their (then new) MINDBODYSKIN supplement. At this moment in time, I was at a breaking point with my skin and Clearstem sounded like just want I needed. I gave the MINDBODYSKIN supplement a chance and the rest is history. I was breaking out every single day before taking the supplement, and once I started, my breakouts reduced drastically. Then I tried HYDRABERRY and CELLRENEW, and I become a total Clearstem convert.
Since then, I’ve experienced a complete skin transformation, became a Clearstem ambassador, and even shared my story in a Clearstem commercial! Now let’s dive into each Clearstem product, I’ve personally tried and used them all.

Clearstem GENTLECLEAN Review
What it is:
GENTLECLEAN is gentle cleanser for acne-prone skin that hydrates, cleanses, removes makeup, and is gentle for daily morning and night use.

My experience:
For me, this is the perfect everyday gentle cleanser! I use it in the morning as my only cleanser, and at night as my second cleanser as I don’t rely on it to remove all of my makeup. It has a slight tangerine scent to it, which smells very refreshing. I love that I can use this cleanser around my eyes, because it never stings or irritates. GENTLECLEAN never strips my skin or makes it feel dry either. This cleanser is ideal for daily use all year round. I’ve personally gone through countless bottles of this! A little goes a long way.

VITAMINSCRUB
Clearstem VITAMINSCRUB Review
What it is:
VITAMINSCRUB is a gentle physical exfoliating cleanser with small bamboo pearls.
What Clearstem says:

My experience:
This Clearstem exfoliating cleanser got me back into physical exfoliation, which I was too afraid of before I used VITAMINSCRUB. This is a cleanser/scrub hybrid, perfect for sloughing off dead skin and polishing the complexion, without irritating it. I apply it on wet skin in circular motions for around 10-15 seconds and then wash it off. I personally have very sensitive skin, so I only exfoliate here and there (once a week or less), and will only target areas prone to congestion when I use an exfoliating (like my forehead or chin). You just need to be careful when you squeeze the product out as it can sometimes just pour out too much. I recommend shaking it up and then opening the cap and gently squeezing the product out into your hand. Bonus tip: use it in the shower as an acne safe body scrub! My experience:
When I first tried CELLRENEW over 3 years ago, it completely transformed my skin. I had active, painful acne and a rosacea flare back then, and this serum became a lifeline for me. CELLRENEW is calming, balancing and healing. It has plant stem cells, allantoin and reishi mushroom, which all work to help renew and soothe inflamed skin. Think of it like a hyaluronic acid serum with major benefits. This is Clearstem’s OG scar reversal serum, and I recommend it to everyone.

Clearstem CLEARITY Review
What it is:
CLEARITY is mandelic acid based chemical exfoliating serum.
What Clearstem says:

My experience:
This exfoliating serum is powerful at dissolving gunk from the pores yet gentle enough if you’re too sensitive to more aggressive exfoliants (like glycolic acid). I’ve used it on areas where my skin gets more congested (like my forehead, chin), and only once or twice a week. My skin barrier gets compromised easily, so I never overdo it with this serum. I like how you can also use it on a breakout as a spot treatment to dissolve the pore and speed up the lifecycle of the breakout. The key thing with this serum is to apply it on bare, cleansed skin and leave it for 10-15 minutes before applying the rest of your products. This is how the mandelic acid will do its work of clearing out your pores! The ingredients are squeaky clean and Switch Natural App approved.

Clearstem BOUNCEBACK Review
What it is:
BOUNCEBACK is an anti-aging peptide serum.
What Clearstem says:
“No tox” serum loaded with potent Peptides and Plant Stem Cells that help improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and dullness.
My experience:
For me, BOUNCEBACK is a little too nourishing, as I have combo/oily skin. This serum also contains tiny specs of mica that adds shimmer to it, and my skin already glows naturally from being oily, so BOUNCEBACK just adds to it which ends up being a little too much glow for my skin type and taste. However, my husband loves this serum! Since he has more mature skin, I’ve really noticed how much his lines appear softer and how his complexion is overall more even and glowy. This is a supercharged peptide serum that has all the benefits of CELLRENEW with Tri-Peptides peptides added.

Clearstem VIBRANCE-C Review
What it is:
VIBRANCE-C is an acne safe stable Vitamin C serum.
What Clearstem says:
Vitamin C serum made irresistible. Immediate glow, lasting visible brightness. Get the power you want, minus the irritation.
My experience:
VIBRANCE-C is one of the newest Clearstem products, and personally I haven’t had the chance to incorporate it fully into my routine, as I like to keep my skincare very simple. I have, however, used this serum on my husband, and I’ve noticed this serum offers immediate glow (this one has mica in it as well), and over time lightens hyperpigmentation. My experience:
This toner is incredible for lightening pigmentation, more than any other product in the Clearstem’s line as of now. With continuous use, it breaks down pigment (even from sunspots or melanoma) and helps it fade away. You can use it on stubborn hyperpigmentation spots on your body, too! I personally don’t reach for this as much, but if you love using a toner after cleansing, this is a powerhouse exfoliator, brightener and hydrator thanks to the 2% BHA, Azelaic Acid Derivative, Niacinamide in the formula.

My experience:
This is an ultra hydrating Hypochlorous Acid that stays on the skin and continues to hydrate over a longer period of time. I have combo/oily skin, so this product is overkill for me, as I’m mostly not looking for extra hydration, haha. It is a spray that you can use to prep your skin for makeup, set your makeup OR just prevent breakouts when you’re on an airplane or working out. SKINSPRAY ALL DAY is much more than just a basic Hypochlorous Acid spray, so if you want the added benefits of hydration, anti-aging and cooling, this is definitely for you. This does have a noticeable scent (a blend of watermelon, honeydew, cantaloupe), but no artificial fragrance, so keep that in mind. The ingredients are squeaky clean and Switch Natural App approved.

My experience:
This is my favorite skincare product from CLEARSTEM, hands down! I use it morning and night, all year round. Its star ingredients are Bakuchiol, Plant Stem Cells, Squalane, all which hydrate, regenerate and restore the skin. It took me over 6 years to find the perfect acne safe moisturizer, until I finally gave HYDRAGLOW a go! Note that it has a noticeable blueberry scent, so if you’re super duper sensitive to natural essential oils which are present in this formula, make sure to do some patch testing. I have extremely sensitive skin and rosacea, and HYDRAGLOW never bothers me though.

My experience:
HYDRABERRY is the first moisturizer I used from Clearstem and it really helped restore my broken skin barrier after using tretinoin for a couple of years. This is a ceramide-rich moisturizer that deeply hydrates the skin and has a cooling + calming effect thanks to Magnesium PCA and Arnica. HYDRABERRY has a slight berry scent. I reach for this in the winter months to hydrate areas of my skin that got dehydrated or irritated, but if you have normal to dry skin, this is the moisturizer for you!

My experience:
My favorite thing about the GOLDENHOUR face oil is its addicting watermelon scent. It’s SOOO good, and I’m usually not big on scents. This is a nourishing yet quick to dry face oil. I use it when I want to do face massage with GUA SHA or with my hands. It’s not greasy, but more of a dry oil. It also contains Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid in addition to the watermelon oil, for added benefits. The ingredients are squeaky clean and Switch Natural App approved.

What it is:
SULFUR SPOT&MASK is an acne spot treatment and mask made with 5% Sulfur, Kaolin Clay and Glycolic Acid.
What Clearstem says:
A powerful acne treatment that penetrates pores to zap oil and prevent new acne blemishes. SULFUR SPOT&MASK is an all-over acne treatment mask made of key ingredients like Clay, Zinc, Sulfur, and Glycolic. This treatment starts to zap whiteheads and bacteria in a matter of minutes and should be used as a weekly preventative mask in addiiton to being a spot treatment.
My experience:
This is my favorite spot treatment! It works incredibly well at reducing a breakout significantly overnight. Even though it’s powerful at zapping breakouts, it’s gentle at the same time. It has a purple tint to it and smells lightly of lavender. Sometimes I will use this as a mask on areas like my forehead, that gets congested more easily. Leave it on for 15 minutes or so and remove. As a spot treatment it works best when you leave it overnight. The ingredients are squeaky clean and Switch Natural App approved.

My experience:
This is a powerful exfoliating mask that combines chemical exfoliation (AHAs) and physical exfoliation (bamboo particles). If you have normal, resilient skin, you will love this mask as it truly gives you that post-facial glow. For me, it’s too strong and I don’t personally enjoy products that give me a tingling sensation. This mask also has a powerful scent that lingers after washing it off. You’ll want to leave it on for only 5 minutes and wash it off in circular motions. You can always spot mask if you want to avoid certain areas of your face that may be more sensitive.

My experience:
I am SO in love with these sheet masks! They are incredibly hydrating, soothing, calming and plumping. They’re great to use whenever your skin barrier needs some love. I noticed GLASS SKIN visibly reduces my redness and makes my skin look even and dewy. The best part is that these sheet masks leave your skin hydrated for days, not just right after using them! My experience:
This is one of my most recommended acne safe mineral sunscreens! YOUARESUNSHINE offers some serious defense from UVA & UVB rays due to the high zinc oxide percentage in it. I find the tint to be slight however it cancels out the white cast and offers some warmth to my fair skin tone. I love how light and easy it feels upon application, and that it dries down to a matte/satin finish. This is my favorite sunscreen for the beach, because of the high zinc content, the tint it offers, and because it’s not greasy. The ingredients are squeaky clean and Switch Natural App approved.

My experience:
If you struggle with reapplying your makeup throughout the day, this brush on sunscreen is going to be the PERFECT solution for you. It’s a tinted powder sunscreen that visibly blurs, controls shine, offers oil control AND keeps your makeup in place. The brush is removable and you can easily wash it, dry it and then plug it back in (I recommend washing the brush weekly at least, like with any makeup brush). Be mindful of inhaling though, as it does contain titanium dioxide. SUNNYSIDEKICK is compact and easy to just throw in your bag, and bring it as your on-the-go sunscreen. This powder sunscreen also contains green tea (calming), resveratrol (anti-oxidant), caffeine (anti-oxidant). I love it.

This is one of the few Clearstem products that doesn’t work for me, personally. This is a very powerful eye treatment, due to the peptides, and it causes a slight tingling sensation for me. But, for example, it doesn’t bother my husband at all! So if you’re sensitive like me, keep this mind. The finish of BRIGHTEYES is tacky, which I also don’t enjoy. The one thing I do LOVE about this product is the cooling metal eye applicator, which is nice to use to massage the eye gel in.

Is Clearstem good for acne-prone skin?
Clearstem was specifically created for people who want to address breakouts without giving up anti-aging and skin-barrier support. The brand focuses heavily on avoiding pore-clogging ingredients, which is one of the reasons I originally became interested in Clearstem.
That said, no skincare brand works identically for everyone. Acne can have many different causes, and even products designed for acne-prone skin can disagree with an individual's skin. In my experience, Clearstem is particularly interesting if you're looking for products that address breakouts while still keeping your routine focused on hydration and healthy-looking skin.
Is Clearstem actually non-comedogenic?
Clearstem's entire philosophy is built around avoiding ingredients that the brand considers potentially pore-clogging, and the company provides a pore-clogging ingredient checker on its website.
It's worth remembering that "non-comedogenic" isn't a guarantee that a product will never cause a breakout for a particular person. Skin is individual, and your entire routine matters—not just one product. I also think it's important to consider makeup, haircare and other products that come into contact with your face when you're trying to figure out what may be contributing to breakouts.
Does Clearstem really work?
This is probably the question I get asked most and the honest answer is that it depends on the product, your skin and what is causing your breakouts in the first place.
I've personally had a very positive experience with Clearstem, which is why I've continued using the brand for years. But I don't think it's realistic to expect one product or one skincare line to "cure" everyone's acne.
If you're considering Clearstem, I'd focus less on whether the entire brand "works" and more on which specific product addresses the concern you're trying to solve.
Is Clearstem worth the money?
Clearstem is definitely a premium skincare brand, so I don't think you need to buy the entire lineup to get something useful from it.
In fact, one of my biggest recommendations is to start with the products that address your biggest skin concern rather than buying an entire routine at once. Once you know what works for your skin, you can decide whether additional products are worth adding.
I would personally start simple with MINDBODYSKIN, HYDRAGLOW and perhaps add CELLRENEW soon after.
What Clearstem products should I start with?
If you're completely new to Clearstem, I would keep things simple rather than immediately introducing multiple actives.
A basic starting routine could be a gentle cleanser, moisturizer and SPF. Once your skin is comfortable with those products, you can introduce a treatment product based on your specific concern.
Clearstem itself recommends starting with a simple "Core Three" routine before adding additional actives, and its current routine guide recommends introducing products gradually rather than using everything at once.
What is the best Clearstem product for acne?
There isn't one Clearstem product that I would call "the best" for every type of acne.
For active breakouts and congestion, CLEARITY and SULFUR SPOT&MASK are two of the products I would look at first. MINDBODYSKIN is the brand's supplement specifically positioned around hormonal acne, while other products in the lineup are more focused on hydration, barrier support, brightening or skin renewal.
My personal favorite may not be the same as yours, which is why I've reviewed the products individually above.
What is the best Clearstem product for sensitive skin?
If your skin is sensitive, I would resist the temptation to start with a bunch of exfoliating or active products at once.
I'd start with the basics, particularly GENTLECLEAN and HYDRAGLOW—and give your skin some time to adjust before introducing stronger treatments.
And if your skin is currently irritated, compromised or reacting to something, adding more products isn't necessarily the answer. Sometimes simplifying your routine is the better move.
Does Clearstem cause purging?
Some Clearstem products contain exfoliating or otherwise active ingredients, so it's possible for someone to experience an adjustment period when introducing a new active.
However, not every breakout after starting a new product is "purging." A true irritation or reaction can look different, and continuing to use a product that is clearly irritating your skin isn't something I recommend simply because you assume it's a purge.
If you develop significant irritation, persistent worsening or a reaction that concerns you, stop the product and talk with a dermatologist or other qualified healthcare professional.
Can I use all of the Clearstem products together?
Technically, Clearstem has a complete routine that incorporates many of its products, but that doesn't mean you should throw the entire lineup onto your face on day one.
It’s generally a good idea to use no more than two serums in a routine and layer products from thinnest to thickest. Some exfoliating products also shouldn't be used together.
My advice: start with the essentials, introduce one new active at a time, and pay attention to how your skin responds.
Can I use Clearstem products under makeup?
Yes. Clearstem states that its products can be used underneath makeup, and several of the products are designed to provide hydration and a smooth base for the rest of your routine. I' haven’t experienced any issues.
Is Clearstem safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
This is one where I would not make a blanket statement that the entire Clearstem line is pregnancy-safe.
Clearstem specifically says not to take MINDBODYSKIN while pregnant or breastfeeding and recommends consulting your doctor if you're pregnant or nursing. Because skincare and supplement ingredients can vary by product, it's best to discuss the specific products you're considering with your own healthcare provider.
If you're pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive, I would always prioritize your doctor's guidance over an online skincare recommendation.
Does Clearstem contain fragrance?
Clearstem says it does not use artificial fragrance, but some products do contain naturally derived aromatic ingredients, including botanical extracts and essential oils.
If your skin is particularly sensitive to fragrance or essential oils, I would still check the individual ingredient list rather than assuming "no artificial fragrance" means "completely fragrance-free."
Is Clearstem available at Target?

How long does it take to see results from Clearstem?
There isn't one universal timeline because different products are designed to address different concerns.
Some products may make your skin feel or look different relatively quickly, while concerns such as breakouts, discoloration, texture and signs of aging generally require consistent use over a longer period.
I would judge a skincare product based on how your skin responds over time rather than expecting dramatic results after a few days. And if you're introducing multiple new products at once, it becomes much harder to tell which product is actually helping or causing a problem. Be patient, take your time with introducing one product at a time, and at least give each product a month or two before moving on. If a product causes irritation, discontinue use.
